I took 12 wks of maternity leave, can my employer let me go if I need more time due to other health issues?

After having a baby, my doctor came across other health issues. He is not willing to give me my work release till he gets the results from surgery. Does my employer have the right to let me go due to unforseen health issues?

Contact an attorney or check out the Family Medical Leave Act.
I am not an attorney nor should you consider this legal advice:
In the family medical leave act it only covers 12 weeks for maternity leave. If it is after the 12 weeks, it is up to your employer with what they want to do.

Not if you get a note from your doctor, but without that note he may. So sit down and talk to your boss and explain the problem. If your boss is female your probably in luck, if hes make and has a problem talk to his wife.

As long as you have medical documentation that you need to be off, I would not worry. Make sure you let your employer know before your twelve weeks are up, that way your employer can find temporary replacements until you are ready to come back to your position. Always keep those communication lines open, that way you don’t burn your bridges. Good luck!
