Sharquenta Wells asked:

Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting  health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities and individuals. However, as individuals we must take an active role in maintaining our health by leading healthy lifestyles and making sure that we are using proper nutrition daily.

Nutrition is the science that studies how people eat and how eating affects their health and performance. This includes foods or food components that cause diseases or deteriorate health such as eating too many calories. This is a major contributing factor to obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Personal health depends partially on the social structure of one’s life.

Healthy eating is a choice but not much of a choice for those who simply lack the knowledge, awareness and clear understanding about healthy cooking. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources as well as physical capacities. Health represents the amount of damage a character can take before death.

Healthy people should have the right to boost their brains with pills, supplements, herbs and vitamins like those prescribed for hyperactive kids or memory-impaired older folks.

Health care is the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of

mental and physical well being through the services offered by the medical, nursing, and allied health professions.

Health research builds primarily on the basic sciences of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as a variety of multidisciplinary fields, i.e. medical sociology.  Health care is further the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of health through the services offered by the medical, dental, nursing, and allied health professions.

Health care embraces all the goods and services designed to promote health, including preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations.

Health care in Venezuela is probably the most extensive and given the country’s fortunes in oil wealth, expenditure has recently increased greatly, starting with mass vaccinations under the Plan Bolivar 2000. While health care in Africa is usually non existent or highly limited and under resourced.

Here in the United States health inspectors are conducting fewer inspections of nursing homes, restaurants and adult day care sites because of budget constraints and the inability to train and keep inspectors and officials. For this reason it is imperative that you take control of your health care issues and become active in resolving them.

Health system problems aggravated a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe 10 December 2008 — A

widespread cholera outbreak and inadequate access to safe drinking water and hygiene are

threatening the well being of thousands of Zimbabweans.

Because of the on-going importance of health — customers are never more than a single click away from ordering products online and referring their friends and associates who are ready to join a membership program.

Customers spread around the world can be attracted by a health business and take notice. You will see that other people will also be interested in marketing a vitamin or natural health business by noticing that others will easily sign up underneath you.

Online store owners, entrepreneurs and small businesses who e-sell their own products find that they have money rolling into their accounts in no time soon after taking action because shoppers readily kick into high-gear.

There are many resources to help you and your family stay healthy. Products classified as dietary supplements are not required to meet any Food and Drug Administration standards which makes it easy to promote a natural health business.

Making extra income can’t get much easier in the booming health industry especially when you don’t have to look after any products or logistics. Health and wellness spending is continuing as companies seek new marketing channels for their advertisements and employers look to control healthcare spending.

Health Spas in South Africa – What Makes Them Unique?

Sunday, May 17th, 2009
Health Spa Guru asked:

Imagine a smoked ginger and crimson skyline towering down over a diverse natural landscape of wild flowers, untamed wildlife and restless waters. Imagine lying gazing at this distinct setting whilst enjoying the pampering and revitalization that goes along with South African traditional customs and massage techniques. A spa experience in South Africa has often been viewed as being one of the most unique and beautiful experiences that one can wish for. So what makes it so unique and what can one expect at a South African spa?

Spas in South Africa can be simple, uncomplicated and traditional as well as both sophisticated and chic. There is a little bit of everything for everyone. Spas are either set in safari or remote country settings or in classy city or beach hotels. However, it is not only the diverse settings which capture the attention of travelers worldwide, but the fusion of customs and traditions into the spa techniques and treatments. A number of South African spas utilize traditional oils and plant extracts in their treatment products and a great emphasis is placed on age old remedies and secrets.

A truly unique and not to be missed experience can also be found within the beautiful wine lands of South Africa. It is here where you can experience Vinotherapy, an innovative treatment originating in France that utilizes grapes and wine to assist in preventing or assisting in the effects of anti-ageing. The antioxidants as well as other properties of the grape are highly beneficial for the skin and for this reason the ingredients has been utilized in massages, full-body exfoliations and hydrotherapy treatments. With South Africa, boasting some of the best wines in the world, a day of wine tasting and Vinotherapy may just be the treat you have been waiting for.

A number of spas also provide you with a complete African experience. You can expect African dances, food and celebrations incorporated into your day or stay at some of the spa destinations in South Africa. The spa experience becomes one of the elements of your experience and allows you to experience both the African culture and the African therapist’s skilled techniques and products. If you are staying over at the spa, you may even be able rest in a traditional yet elegant African hut. This is a wonderful option if you are looking for both serenity and for a place to reflect in an uninterrupted natural setting.

Those of you seeking more sophistication and modern elegance will also find yourself spoilt for choice at some of the many exclusive spa destinations and resorts. Gaze down at the city nightlife from your treatment suite or relax for a day in spas boasting top of the line facilities and therapists. These classy spas can be found both in the city and in the more remote areas of South Africa, so your selection would be based purely on personal choice.

Nonetheless, South Africa is a spa crazy country which promises to offer an array of spa destinations as well as unique experiences. If you wanting to truly experience African culture at its best, booking into a South African destination spa or resort and choosing between the many traditional and natural spa products could set you on the right path.

If You Want to Keep Your Homes, Stay Healthy!

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
stay healthy
zeusjohn asked:

If you are worried about losing your home because you have become delinquent in your mortgage payments, you must ensure one thing – stay healthy.

You may not know it, but health can affect how your housing situation will fare in the coming months, or even years. In these times when foreclosure proceedings can happen in a snap of a finger, it is always best to be on time with your mortgage payments. Accomplishing this requires a dependable regular income, and you won’t be able to do this if you are frequently absent from work. Not only will you be burdened with rising medical bills, you may also lag behind your mortgage payments, which may eventually lead to foreclosure.

Obviously, absence makes the pocket shallower; it can also take away your home. One thing you can do to prevent this from happening is make sure that you don’t get sick.

Similarly, foreclosures have the same effect on one’s health. Overdue mortgage payments and foreclosure notices can stress out a person to the point of getting sick. Then, your work suffers, and eventually, your home.

Homelessness is the next phase of this vicious cycle. Homeless people are exposed to the elements, germs, bacteria, and viruses, making them more prone to illness and infection. Without proper medical attention, health conditions can worsen. Who knows what could happen next?

The government already has a legislation that will provide various housing assistance programs to different people. One of them is the creation of a national Housing Trust Fund which is designed to provide housing for those in need.

But if we really want to deal with this problem head-on, initiatives must start in the neighborhoods. We can’t just solely depend on the government to do all the dirty work. Communities also have a duty to look after the needs of their residents.

Take the Mental Health Board of St. Louis in Missouri as an example. This institution offer services like homeless outreach and housing stabilization programs that make sure that the homeless and those with mental health disorders have a house where they can be safe. Their programs also ensure that these people are placed in an environment where they can have access to supportive services.

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council located in Nashville, Tennessee, fights to put a stop to foreclosure and make access to health care available to everyone. If you are homeless and looking for shelters, you can seek help from the National Coalition for the Homeless online directory of Local Homeless Service Organizations. Shelters and homeless service providers are listed by state. You can also use the Directory of Homeless & Housing Advocacy Coalitions for further resources. The council also provides relevant information on healthcare services through their Health Care for the Homeless providers in each state.

Housing Assistance Network ( http://new.housingassistancenetwork.com ) - is a site that aims to help those who are in the low to moderate income brackets find financial assistance for housing, help in acquiring a new home, or grant programs from both state and non-government institutions.

Stay Healthy Outside and Inside

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Beauty, Health And Fitness asked:

Health is wealth. By being physically fit, it can make a person look lean both inside and out.

There is a lot a person can do such jogging or walking  in the morning, playing basketball or any other sport with friends but if a person wants to have muscles and look lean, the best thing to do will be to sign up and workout in a gym.

Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

Physical exercise is beneficial because it helps maintain and improve ones health from a variety of diseases and premature death.  It also makes a person feel happier and increases ones self esteem preventing one from falling into depression or anxiety. It has also shown to make a person with an active lifestyle live longer than a person who doesnt.

The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and make one either gain or lose weight.

A person who has never worked out before should do it gradually. Doing it too much for the first time can make one pull a muscle or have an injury making it worse. Endurance will never be built in a day and doing it repeatedly will surely be good to the person.

Focusing on certain portion in the body can help make it improve. A good example is going to the gym and doing a workout more often in a specific area such as the abs can give one a chest pack.

But beauty is not only about having muscles which is what people can see. It is also about enhancing the beauty within.

Here are some things one can do everyday to stay beautiful and healthy;

Reading books and other reading material more often keeps the mind sharp just like working out keeps the body in shape.

Work no matter what kind it is produces stress. One can reduce this by taking the time out to do something special like lying in a hot tub, shopping or watching a movie. Studies have shown it is reliever and helps one from looking haggardly.

Pollution is something people cannot control given the size of the problem. When one goes out, it is best to put some form of protection such as beauty products that contain antioxidants that protect the skin from damage. There are also other beauty products available and choosing the right one with the help of a dermatologist can help the person.

Another way to stay healthy is to give up some vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer and other diseases as well complications for women giving birth. Excessive drinking has also shown to do the same.

For people who dont smoke, it is best to stay away from people who do since studies have shown that nonsmokers are also at risk of developing cancer due to secondary smoke inhalation.

Lastly, it is best to always start the day with a positive outlook. Just as studies have shown that exercise makes a person feel happier, smiling produces the same effect. A smile can do a lot and it is contagious in a positive sense. It brightens the day of not only one but others as well.

Top 10 Tips to Stay Healthy

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Freddic asked:

“The greatest wealth is health,” said Virgil. And I think he was dead right because you need to be healthy, to both earn and enjoy what you earn. All of us are prone to health risks for a myriad reasons, but we can minimize our risks by leading a healthy life. The following 10 tips are meant to enable just that happen.

1. Be on a healthy diet

Eating is a way to nourish your body. If you feed it with junk it would not only result in lowered performance, but might harm it in the long run. So, it makes all the more sense to choose your diet wisely. A balanced diet is a must as is the quantity of what you eat. Some healthy eating options include eating about 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day while minimizing the consumption of saturated fats has a beneficial effect. They not only enhance your health but may also decrease the risk of cancer and several other diseases. So that you don’t have to depend on pharmaceutical drugs to keep control you ailments.

2. Staying active is the way to be

All animals seem to be active in some way or the other, ants, monkeys, flies, butterflies all of them seem to be on the move, except for a portion of humans. Our bodies are perhaps accustomed to activity, I presume that the early men & women, or our ancestors much like the animals were busy gathering food… No more yada, yada… but doctors suggest that adults need about 30 minutes of moderate physical activity preferably on all days of the week. You need to begin slowly, and try to make it enjoyable at the same time, so that you persist to reap the real benefits of physical exercise. Some good activities to get moving are cycling, jogging, gardening, walking, dancing, gardening and swimming.

3. Be wary of obesity and being overweight

Being heavier than what’s healthy for you increases the magnitude of risk of several debilitating diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. If you already have a healthy weight, maintain it, but if you’re overweight or obese begin right now to set your weight right. Each excess pound that you lose will allow you to stay healthy throughout your life.

4. Vaccinations are important

Vaccination isn’t child’s play only. There are many professions and lifestyles that might put you at an increased risk of infections. In consultation with a physician, determine which vaccines you need and get them.

5. Control Stress

Stress, be it physical or mental can wreck havoc with our health. A balanced lifestyle need to accommodate your professional, personal and social lives. You neglect the need to balance your life at your own risk, it isn’t often easy to strike a work-life balance but you need to find a way.

6. Get yourself health screened regularly

Because the need for routine health exams and assessments is different based on your health history, age, lifestyle, etc, you need to consult a physician to decide upon what all screenings you need and how frequently. The reason is simple, for diseases to be diagnosed early results in better outcomes, they can be treated and cure early. Common exams include those for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sexually transmitted diseases, cancers and diabetes. For instance, cancer drugs can effectively treat cancer if it’s detected early on.

7. No Smoking Please!

If you don’t smoke you’re privileged because so many people I know who do, find it quite tough to give it up. But tough doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. I think you need the motivation to get there, as one of my friends, Martin, quit smoking when his girlfriend encouraged him to do so. I don’t mean that you need a girlfriend to tell you to quit, but you do need to be in love with staying healthy. It’s difficult, but you can try and you must, seek professional help if need be. Needless to mention, but from head to toe, there isn’t a body part that smoking doesn’t harm.

8. Is you health at risk?

You need to find an answer to this one based on your work & home environments, heredity, lifestyle, etc. Once you’re forewarned of the health risks you harbor, you can minimize that risk by taking the right action. Your health care provider can help you with this exercise.

9. Protection is the key

If you wear seat belts, but don’t practice safe sex, you’re using different yardsticks. Protection isn’t limited to *** and driving but everything from applying sunscreen to brushing your teeth and having fire smoke detectors installed. Whatever you do, wherever you live a proactive approach to protection can save you from a lot of diseases, injuries, hardships, etc.

10. Treat yourself well

This simply means that you pay attention to your health, if you’re all about caring for the family

for instance and neglecting yourself. Then this isn’t treating yourself well. Rest and relax, enjoy and have fun, forgive yourself and let go can go a long way to ensure that you’re happier and healthier.

Be healthy and smile would automatically come to you.

5 Ways to Staying Healthy

Lisa G asked:

Here are five simple ways of staying healthy.

1. Reduce Stress

There is good stress and bad stress (distress).  If we have absolutely no stress in our lives, life will be very boring indeed, however, if we have too  much stress then life will be - well - stressful.

In our fast paced life we tend to take on too many responsibilites that wear our bodies out.  There is only so much we can do in any given day.  Setting priorities and practicing good time management is one way of reducing stress.

2. Take Control of your Emotions

Being constantly angry and resentful is not a healthy attitude.  Research has shown that anger can cause cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Learning to control your emotions is critical to enjoying a healthy lifestyle.  The bible tells us that “a cheerful heart is good medicine” (Prov. 17:22)

3. Exercise

Regular exercise I’m sure you’ve heard over and over again is vital to staying healthy.  You don’t need to spend money you don’t have to attend the gym or hire a personal trainer (unless you really want to).  The simplest and most effective form of exercise is walking.

Walk to the supermarket, walk to school, walk to work, walk two blocks and back, drive to the park and walk a few laps, walk to your friends house - just walk.  In biblical times walking was a way of life and the average person lived to about 70 years.

Walking will help you to control your weight and blood pressure and significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks.

4. Practice Safe Sex

Did you know that there are over 40 kinds of Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)?  Some of these have no symptoms until it is too late, and can still be contagious.  HIV/AIDS as we all know has no cure, and can cause death if not detected early and properly treated.  It is always better and wiser to save *** for marriage and to be faithful to your partner in order avoid contracting any STD which can be detrimental to your health.

5. Live a Righteous Life

“Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.  Instead fear the Lord and turn your back on evil.  Then you will gain renewed health and vitality”. (Prov. 3:7-8).

When you listen to God by reading the bible and apply what you have learnt to your life, your quality of life will be greatly improved.  You will experience overall good health, happiness, financial freedom and everything else that constitutes living a happy life.  Of course life will still be full of challenges, but look at these as good stress and learn how to handle them effectively.
